GRA seals-off construction company's office

The Ghana Revenue Authority has sealed off the office of Abraham Construction and Electrical Company Limited for failure to pay taxes owed to the state. Abraham Construction and Electrical Company Limited owes GH16,582.50 in taxes. Mr Frank Anane, Chief Revenue Officer of the GRA, said the action became necessary when three separate cheques issued by the company to settle its indebtedness were dishonoured. Mr Anane said the GRA would continue with the distress action to recover monies owed to the state. He said some of the companies had consistently failed to pay the monies owed despite numerous reminders and this had led to the distress action being mounted in line with the Value Added Tax Act. The distress action is the last tool of mobilisation that the GRA uses to collect monies owed to it. The companies are given an ultimatum to pay and if they failed the Authority would take custody of their assets and sell them to defray the debts.
