At a time when there is palpable tension in the country because of the impending election petition verdict and potential eruption of violence ala the US Embassy in Ghana, 2012 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akufo Addo has sought to calm the nerves of the nation by reiterating his commitment to peace. The news was delivered by Hassan Ayariga after a visit by a delegation made up of almost all the presidential contestants in the 2012 general elections. According to him, Nana Addo, the first petitioner in the ongoing petition at the Supreme Court, results likened the decision got to court to a village man who has a problem with his wife. �the first place to go is to go to the Chief�s palace to lodge a complaint. And finally, whatever the chief says is what both of you must accept�. ��so he believes that his chief is the Supreme Court and he will also make it clear to his people that they will accept the verdict of the Supreme Court. And also appeal to their members to stay calm�. Hassan Ayariga, the 2012 presidential candidate for the People�s National Convention (PNC) disclosed this to Asempa Fm after a visit by all the presidential hopefuls in election 2012, namely; Mr. Akwasi Adei popularly known as Odike, flagbearer for the United Front Party (UFP); Independent candidate, Joseph Osei Yeboah (JOY); Dr. Henry Lartey, Flagbearer of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP); Hassan Ayariga, flagbearer of the People's National Convention (PNC) and Abu Sakara, flagbearer of the Convention People�s Party (CPP). The group, had earlier called on President John Dramani Mahama, who also pledged his commitment to peace. These assurances from both parties in the election petition trial comes on the heels of a warning by the US Embassy to its citizens in Ghana, to avoid crowded places and political rallies due to the potential eruption of violence. The Embassy also urged �US citizens in Ghana� in the statement titled: �Security Message for U.S Citizens: Potential Reaction to the Supreme Court�s Election Decision� to maintain �a high level of vigilance and to take appropriate steps to increase their security/safety awareness during this politically-sensitive period.� However, Mr. Ayariga revealed that Nana Addo told the delegation �he is a man of peace and as a lawyer, he would not incite (people to) violence�.
