Athlete Janet Amponsah says the idea of a nationality switch has yet to cross her mind at least for now.
The Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) has been in the news recently following the switch of nationality by long jumper Ignatius Gaisah to The Netherlands, and Amponsah is hoping for an end to such practices.
The 20-year old told GNA Sports 'yes, it has crossed my mind but i am not considering that now.'
Amponsah bears her former colleague who cited financial support and motivation amongst factors that necessitated his switch no grudge, and wants authorities to give an improved attention to athletics as football enjoys.
�I was sad to hear of Gaisah�s decision because he is very good, but he had a valid reason as athletes are neglected with no attention compared to footballers. So he must be allowed to pursue his dream�
The Police Officer was Ghana�s sole representative at the recent World Athletics Championships in Moscow, Russia; but failed to reach the second stage after finishing last in the 200m heat.
Though Gaisah represented The Netherlands at the championship, Amponsah received a visit from the the long jumper silver medalist while in Moscow.
�He (Gaisah) came over and spoke to me. He also encouraged me to do better and I was humbled by his gesture.�
Despite crushing out at the first round, she is still reveling in the opportunity to compete at the highest level in athletics.
�I have gained experience and also enjoying progress in my base in Mauritius. Now, I know what it takes to win a laurel at a major championship and i plan to intensify my training and hope i get the opportunity to compete in at least four meets each year to improve on my time.�
Amponsah has challenged herself to a time below 22s before the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
