Union Govt Is A Bogus Idea - Pratt

Kwesi Pratt Jnr., Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, has rubbished calls for a Union Government to be established after the Supreme Court ruling. According to him, it would be a direct subversion of the 1992 constitution for the nation to experience an all-inclusive government because the Union Government idea was resisted by mass movements including the Trades Union Congressthe Ghana Bar Association, Professional Bodies Association and so on during the historical days of the country. Addressing his concern on Radio Golds Alhaji Alhaji, Mr. Pratt described as bogus the idea for a Union government and therefore was of a strong view that Ghanaians should be given the opportunity to exercise their rights, thus, tolerate one anothers differences. The tolerance of differences of each person and the promotion of competition in the political spotlight, he said, was the principal reason why Ghanaians opted for a multi-party democratic system. The multi-party system will open up the political space and allow ideas to compete freely, so if the element of competition and difference of opinion be scrapped, multi-party democracy collapses. He believed an all-inclusive government as pontificated by some political leaders in the country will not augur well for the nations democracy. What kind of tension do we have in Ghana necessitating measures which will more or less amount to the declaration of a State of Emergency? he questioned.
