It was quite a scene, as a 50-year old farmer, who had caused the criminal prosecution of his estranged wife over persistent physical assaults pleaded with the judge not to punish the woman by sending her to prison.
Akwasi Appiah of Abodiase near Nkawie in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District, has been married to Abena Kwabena, 37, for 17 years and they have seven children.
The relationship hit the rocky patch and they separated.
On February 4, the wife beat up Appiah and a formal report was made to the police leading to her arrest and subsequent appearance before the Nkawie Circuit Court, where she was made to sign a bond to be of good behaviour for six months or spend 12 months in prison for any breach.
Abena, however, chose the path of defiance and intransigence by attacking and hitting her husband with a stone on August 13.
She was consequently arrested, put before the very same Court and pleaded guilty to the offence.
Appiah could not stand seeing the wife imprisoned, intervened to make an emotionally touching plea to the Presiding Judge, Mr William Boampong, to deal leniently with her.
The Court took his plea into consideration and ordered the woman to sign another six-month bond.
She was, however, warned that she risked going to jail if she went back to her bad conduct.
