A member of the pro-pressure political group, the Alliance For Accountable Governance (AFAG), Davies Opoku, has chastised the Director-General of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) for speaking against the live telecast and the cost incurred transmitting proceedings of the 2012 Election Petition case, saying he lacks appreciation of the essence of the live telecast. According to him, Ghanaians are now aware of the irregularities which characterized the 2012 election; adding that it is wrong for anybody to posit that the live telecast of the case has led to the GBC incurring losses since it has helped to expose the lies which would have been spewed out to the public by both parties in the case. GBC claims the live coverage of the 2012 presidential election petition at the Supreme Court has cost them GH�3.5 million. The amount covers operational cost for the period April 4, 2013 to August 29, 2013. An acting Deputy Director-General of GBC, Mr Oscar Nchor, gave a breakdown of the cost as covering the petition at the Supreme Court, link to Broadcasting House, production of sign language in TV studio, production of local languages in TV studio and nationwide radio and TV transmissions. Explaining further, Mr Nchor noted that all GBC�s planned programmes were jettisoned by the live coverage, including those that would have generated some income for the corporation. But speaking on Okay fm, the AFAG member asserted that the NDC is not happy that the live telecast has prevented the NDC from indulging in propaganda with proceedings from the court room. He added that GBC should have taken advantage of the case to make profitable business than to lament about losses. �if GBC comes out to say that the live telecast of the 2012 election petition has led to losses, then the Director-General (Major Albert B. Don. Chebe (Rtd)) of GBC should be sacked for failing to take advantage of this landmark case to generate revenue for the station...it is embarrassing for the Director-General to say that the station incurs losses�without finding other means to raise money� he does not deserve to occupy that position (Dir-Gen)�GBC could have used the court recess to play commercials instead of showcasing animals in the wildlife�,� he stressed. To him, since the entire attention of the nation had been glued to events unfolding in the court courtesy GTV�s live telecast, and its �Director-General claims they couldn�t capitalized on this case to raise revenue, then he should stop complaining�. �I am saying that the man does not deserve to be there; he must be sacked from the position of the Director-General of GBC�, he churned out, after pointing out the ineptitude of the administration of GBC to take advantage of this case to raise revenue.
