Tamale came alive after the Supreme Court announced its verdict on the 2012 Presidential Elections as most residents especially the youth took over the streets with their motorbikes displaying various styles and tooting horns in celebration. Other residents were seen on their compounds discussing the issues with their friends and relatives. Apart from few people, who were clad in National Democratic Congress paraphernalia, most of the jubilants were wearing their normal dresses and described the decision of the Supreme Court as victory for the country. Security personnel mostly officers from the Ghana Armed Forces were seen positioned at the main town and known areas noted for political rioting in the Tamale Metropolis. Prior to the announcement of the verdict Tamale became almost a ghost town, as most residents stayed indoors to watch television or listen to radio. Some shop owners did not open their shops while business activities remained dull. Reports monitored by the Ghana News Agency indicated similar patterns of peaceful celebration across the Northern Region with security officers on standby to maintain law and order.
