The Christian Council on Tuesday cautioned Ghanaians against statements that could inflame passions and disturb the peace of the country after the Supreme Court�s Verdict on the 2012 election petition.
This came out when the Council, led by Reverend Esmond Wasau Nagba and some members of the Council in northern Ghana, paid a courtesy call on the Upper East Regional Minister, Alhaji Limuna Mohammed-Muniru, in Bolgatanga.
The essence of the visit according to Reverend Nagba was to congratulate the Minister for the peaceful manner in which the Region worked towards upholding the peace in the Region before, during and after the Supreme Court Verdict.
He said prayers offered by faith-based organizations in the Region showed Ghanaians� willingness to see God as the ultimate ruler of nations hence the peace being enjoyed in the country after the Supreme Court passed its verdict.
He said Ghanaians worked tirelessly to ensure peace and called on all to be proactive in working towards sustaining it.
Rev Nagba said the Council would continue to work in collaboration with other faith-based organizations to ensure peace by re-echoing the call to all political parties to avoid raising tension through speeches they made.
He expressed worry about recent comments in the aftermath of the verdict and appealed to government to intervene in order to prevent any escalations.
The Council member thanked all Ghanaians, institutions and groups especially the media for keeping to their assurances not to review the verdict, which he said contributed to the maintenance of the peace.
He called on government to facilitate the launching of the Peace Council in Region and pledged that the Council was ready to support in addressing issues in the Region.
Alhaji Mohammed-Miniru thanked the representatives and called for support from the Council as development partners to support in the efforts against poverty, illiteracy and diseases confronting the people.
The Minister expressed worry at the rate at which alcohol was consumed among teachers during school hours in the Region and called on the churches to use their pulpits to change this attitude.
He thanked all churches and the media for the good work done to promote peace in the country, asking for their continuous prayers for the nation and for development.
