National Service Postings Out

The Ghana National Service Scheme (NSS) has officially released the deployment of National Service persons for the 2013/2014 service year. About 70,110 National service applicants across the country can check their postings from today on the NSS website and visit the regional offices on Monday August 9, 2013 for registration. The Acting Executive Director of National Service Scheme, Alhaji Alhassan Imoro who announced this at a press conference in Accra yesterday said young graduates from the various tertiary institutions have been deployed to various parts of the country in the various sectors of the economy to serve the nation for one year. He added that the deployment exercise which is guided by the service scheme Act 426 mandates the NSS Board to direct Ghanaian citizens of 18 years and above to be engaged fulltime in the areas of agriculture, co-operatives, education, health among others. He noted that the deployment was heavily influenced by the Governments priority development programme which is in fulfilment of the core objectives aimed at ensuring the promotion of national unity and also provide support services amenities particularly in towns and rural communities. Alhaji Imoro indicated that the Scheme had deployed a total of 36,426 service personnel to the Education sector as part of their support to the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service. He said about 3,157 service personnel from the Education Sector had been deployed to the tertiary education level to support the Training Institutions in faculty work, research and administration. The Acting Executive Director added that the health sector had deployed 3,100 personnel to support health delivery, especially in hospitals, clinics, immunization centres and the National Health Insurance Scheme. Furthermore, Alhaji Imoro said the Private Sector including mining and quarrying, commerce, banking, telecommunication among others had attracted 10,427 service personnel as against 5,678 last year. He added that the Scheme had scaled up deployment with 18,383 personnel to support public service institutions in allocated areas like Sector Ministries and Agencies comprising agriculture, environment, energy and others. Speaking on the regional distribution, Alhaji Imoro stressed that the trend in the regional distribution with regard to requests, choice of regions and deployments had been a huge gap between the urban and rural communities. He said, A total of 11,099 chose the three Northern regions. The Greater Accra Region alone recorded 25, 424 as first choice with a total of 18, 4224 requests from the Greater Accra region deployed. He added that a total of 7,000 who could not be deployed to Greater Accra had to be deployed to other regions to make up for the shortfalls. He further explained that Ashanti Region, Eastern and Western Region deployed 10,122; 6,072 and 5,933 respectively whereas Central, Volta and Brong Ahafo deployed 5,148; 4,652, and 6,596 respectively. He however disclosed that the increasing number of graduates from tertiary institutions had been one of the major challenges of the Scheme. Alhaji Imoro therefore urged Ghanaians to support the NSS since it would develop further skills and open new opportunities that could enhance personnel employability and thereby reduce graduate unemployment.
