Kwesi Appiah: Our Ambition Was To Try And Get A Win

Black Stars head Coach, Kwesi Appiah has expressed joy for the victory against the Chipolopolo of Zambia. According to him, a win is all he needed but not how adroit the Stars played since he knew how tactical the Zambians were before the game. Kwesi Appiahs side had lost their last two meetings against the Chipolopolo but their win at the Baba Yara Stadium rounded up a busy campaign which produced five wins from six matches with Zambia, the only side to have beaten them in Ndola. Speaking to GTV after the game, Coach Appiah was very optimistic of the Stars participation in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. ... Zambia has got a very good team and it was not going to be easy game and we saw it. All what we needed to do was to make sure that we didnt concede any goal and then secondly, we defend tactically and rely on counter attacks which I think my players did very well, Kwesi Appiah said after the game. On the structure of his team for the match, he said; It wasnt my expectation as to how we play but tactically we needed to either get a win or get a draw, and the most important thing our ambition was to try and get a win which I think the players did very well to get it. The two-time World Cup finalist took the lead at the packed Baba Yara Stadium when John Boye lobbed the ball into the six-yard box for Majeed Waris to head past Kennedy Mweene for the opener in the 17th minute. Kwadwo Asamoah shot from a 30-meter yard in the 62nd minute to double the score line for Ghana, with an equalizer 11 minutes later from the Zambians making it 2-1.
