UK Commends Ghana

The United Kingdom (UK) on Monday commended Ghanaians for a peaceful resolution of the 2012 Presidential election dispute through the judicial process. Mr Peter Jones, UK High Commissioner to Ghana, made the remark in an exclusive interview with the Ghana News Agency on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of a two-week course on Managing defence in a wider security context" course in Accra. The High Commissioner praised both the petitioners and the respondents for accepting the verdict of the Supreme Court. He said the aggrieved side did well by following the right process in seeking redress through the court. He observed that the fact that Ghana had come out of the electoral dispute peacefully was a credit for every Ghanaian. Mr Jones further urged the losing side to put the petition behind them and look forward to the next general election in 2016. He said the voter turn out of 80 per cent in the last general election was an indication of how politically enthusiastic Ghanaians are. The High Commissioner stated that Ghanas security and stability was of paramount importance to the UK, hence the two countries would continue to collaborate for their mutual benefit.
