Akufo-Addos Driver Picked Up Over Murder Threat

The driver of the main opposition New Patriotic Partys twice-defeated presidential candidate has been picked up by the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service on Wednesday for allegedly threatening the Greater Accra regional Communications Director of the same party. The Driver, whose name has been given as Joseph, is alleged by Mr. Mike Ampong, to have threatened his life on phone. The alleged threat followed recent comments by Mr. Ampong that the party should focus on re-organising ahead of the 2016 elections rather than concentrating on debating who leads the party in 2016. The debate started when the partys General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John told XYZ News that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, will definitely run for the third time. Speaking to XYZ News, Mike Ampong confirmed that Nana Addo's driver would be picked up by the Police CID for threatening his life. He was however not sure if the driver had already been picked up or is yet to be picked up for questioning. DSP Freeman Tetteh, PRO of the Greater Accra Police Command in an interview confirmed that two people have been picked up to write their caution statements but failed to disclose the identities of the two persons. He however added that the two persons were released from police custody after they gave their statements.
