Disposable Spoons From Refuse Dumps Hit Food Joints

The Pressure on health facilities in the country is on the verge of deteriorating further as an outbreak of chronic sicknesses such as Hepatitis B is looming should food vendors and restaurant operators not shy away from re-serving their customers with already used disposable plastic spoons. The Daily Heritage newspaper can confirm that some food vendors in the capital have been practicing this ill-health attitude by collecting disposable plastic spoons from refuse dumps and other areas, wash them and serve their customer with them. This worrisome development has been occurring around Tema Station, Circle Odawna station, Neoplan Station, Teshie-Nungua and other popular joints in the capital. Various schools and institutions around those vicinities also use these spoons frequently. Vendors who sell rice, waakye, and breakfast foods such as tea, oats and porridge are among those deeply involved in this ill-healthy attitude. The practice is made possible because when people are served in restaurants they understandably leave the disposable spoons behind. Since many people eat outside of home, an outbreak of deadly diseases could occur as many are not sure of the quality of cleaning that the disposable spoons are subjected to before they are served to the unsuspecting public. The Food and Drug Authority should immediately avert their minds to this canker.
