Barring any hitches, utility tariffs are expected to be increased up to 150%. According to the Public Utilities and Regulatory Commission (PURC), consumers will have to bear the cost. The Volta River Authority (VRA) requested for an increment in its tariffs by 137.5%. The Ghana Grid company (GRIDco) also called for an upward adjustment of 39.36% while the Ghana Water Company on the other hand, demanded an increase of 99.39%. The ECG responsible for distributing power to homes and businesses requested a 166% increase in electricity tariff across board. In an interview with Citi News, the Director of Public Affairs at the PURC, Nana Yaa Gyantuah confirmed that tariffs "are definitely going up". According to her, the Commission has been engaging stakeholders over the tariff increment. Responding to public calls that utility companies are undeserving of any upward adjustment due to its poor services, Mrs Gyantuah explained that utility companies are not getting realistic prices She however gave the assurance that the Commission is designing a module to make adjustments more bearable.
