MP Takes On Finance Minister

FREDA PREMPEH, Member of Parliament for Tano North Constituency in the Brong Ahafo Region, is demanding the immediate resignation of Finance Minister, Seth Terkper for diverting statutory funds meant for MPs. Speaking with Daily Guide in Sunyani over the weekend, Freda Prempeh expressed her disgust about the attitude of the Finance Minister and the Mahama administration for their attempt to cripple the work of MPs by starving them of their mandatory funds to undertake development projects in their constituencies. According to the Tano North MP, apart from the MPs core mandate as legislators, we are also to ensure the welfare of our people; as such we are agents of change in our constituencies. She therefore wondered how MPs could work effectively without the necessary tools such as the funds that the Central Government is required by law to release to them to embark on some key selected development projects in their constituencies. These statutory funds which are long overdue, she said, had already been approved and allocated to parliamentarians in the budget.
