Graduate Teachers Also Complain Of Unpaid Salaries

An industrial strike looms over the nations Senior High Schools (SHS) as the 2011 batch of graduate teachers across the country are also complaining of unpaid salaries for the past two years. The teachers, numbering about 1,000 were recruited by the Ghana Education Service (GES) after graduating in 2011 but the GES has neither processed their salaries nor given them any tangible explanations for the delays. Some of the teachers who spoke to Citi News explained that the situation has left them in a state of economic hardship. One of the affected teachers lamented saying, weve worked for over a year with no salary. Suddenly we heard that theres been an embargo and so we dont know as at now the actual reason for that and so as at now, we are languishing. We are doing the job alright but no salary. Another also explained, I started teaching since 2011 and up till now, Ive not been paid a pesewa. Its not easy, its not easy because you have to get a place to stay and pay your bills and eat and take a car to school, its not easy.
