A 32-year old police officer with the Kaneshie District Police, Juttah Dormevenu, met his untimely death at dawn yesterday, after he was stabbed whilst on patrol duty, together with four of his colleagues. According to a Joy News report, the suspect, whose name is readily not available, got down from his car after he had been stopped at De-Mod, North Kaneshie, and stabbed the officer in the neck. The Greater Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Freeman Tetteh, confirmed the story, and said the suspect took Juttahs rifle and bolted. He was hotly pursued by the other policemen, who fired at the suspect, wounding him in the process. Determined, the suspect continued bolting until the gunshot wound began having a toll on him. He was eventually overpowered by his pursuers. The unconscious Juttah Dormevenu was initially rushed to the Cocoa Clinic at Kaneshie, but after his condition worsened, he was moved to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His wife, Blessed, said she last saw her husband speed off on his motorbike to work before 9:00 p.m., after taking his supper which was his last meal. When her husband delayed in coming home in the early morning, she called him on his phone several times, but there was no answer. Blessed notified her sister-in-law, who advised that they go to the police station to look for Juttah. Blessed said she first took her children to school, and returned to find senior police officers at her home, who narrated the tragic incident to her.
