Cable Thief Electrocuted To Death

A cable thief has been electrocuted to death at Odado in Winneba in the Central Region. The deceased, Yaw Eddie, 23 years of age, died instantly in an attempt to steal the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) cables from an electricity pole, not knowing that there was �poor� in the cables. After the electrocution, he was found in a pool of blood with his head butted and the whole body completely burnt, Kwesi Nyanfu, an eye witness told The Independent. According to him, cable theft has been on high spate in the area in recent times. According to Mr. Nyanfu, thieves have their eyes on ECG cables because the copper in cables in a raw material for making expensive ornaments and other body accessories. The situation seems to have got out of hands as the ECG has unsuccessfully dealt with it. The thieves seem to have devised �ways and means� to outsmart the ECG, even though few unfortunate occurrances, like Yaw�s death, have happened across the country. The Winneba Police Station confirmed report of electrocution and death of Yaw. The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Winneba government hospital pending investigation. As at the time of filing t his report, no family member had contacted the police nor the hospital to identify the body of the deceased.
