The Challenge Season 5 To Hit TV Screens On October 13

Back in school we had all kinds of names for them; sharp brain, shark, Prof and so on. They were the nerds. The ones that represented us at debates, quizzes and other knowledge based competitions. They were the ones that collected all the awards during speech days and mostly were also the ones that wore glasses, weren't fashionable or funky and generally did nothing except bury their heads in books. They were, to put it bluntly, annoyingly smart. It was a big relief therefore when it became apparent that this show was not created for them only, but for all of us. For every young Ghanaian university graduate with an ambition, a need and an aim to reach higher in education and become an asset to society. The British Council, GHOne and TIGO did just right by dropping this big prized ball on a level playing field for all to battle. The Challenge Season5! The search was both intense and exciting as the participants went through a rather tricky, yet challenging and arduous aptitude test to cut down the numbers from the several to the few that would face the panel one-one one. It was a moment of joy as the names of the qualified candidates were announced. Those that didn't make it, went home disappointed to wait another year. Headline sponsored by telecoms giant, TIGO, the show has seen over 10 Ghanaian University graduates take up various courses at the University of Westminster, Thames Valley and London Metropolitan all in London, as well as the Robert Gordon University in the oil hub of Europe, Aberdeen, Scotland. This Season, which happens to be the fifth and coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the British Council, is set to be the biggest with over 100,000 pounds in scholarships from 3 of the very best universities in the UK; Northampton University, University of Salford in Manchester and the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland. The final 15 candidates that will be selected for the competition each gets a laptop from IPMC, loaded with Data from TIGO, Mobile phones from TIGO, tons of souvenirs from other sponsors and for the very first time, a whopping 5000 pounds cash to be invested with Beige Capital for the overall winner. It was no wonder therefore when hundreds of bright and ambitious university graduates turned up for a shot at what has now come be fully accepted as Ghanas biggest and most relevant prize on TV. The Challenge is produced by GHOne with support from IPMC, Beige Capital, VitaMilk, the University of Salford, Northampton and the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen Scotland. It is a British Council Ghana Initiative and proudly sponsored by TIGO. The show premieres this Saturday 13th October at 6pm on TV3 and at 8pm on GHOne entertainment TV.
