A leading member of the opposition New Patriotic party (NPP) in the South Tongu Constituency, who was arrested for allegedly killing a dog belonging to Ex President Jerry John Rawlings has accused the former Head of State of using vicious dogs to prevent inhabitants of Tefle from accessing the Volta River. According to Mr. Kwesi Banahene, who spoke to Okay Fm�s Kwame Nkrumah Tikesie, President Rawlings has deployed the services of dangerous dogs, which bite on sight, in and around the Tefle Township in the bid to stop the townsfolk from fetching water from the Volta River. He further disclosed that all the attempts he made to the Queen Mother of the area to intercede in the matter have proven abortive but flatly denied the allegation of mutilating the said dog. Mr. Kwesi Banahene�s submission came on the heels of his release on bail, after he was detained for thirty-six hours, in three different police facilities, in the Volta Region and the Greater Accra Region. The 56-year-old NPP man was picked up on Wednesday, 9th October, 2013 at his residence, at Tefle, which is incidentally directly adjacent to that of the former President. He has since been released on bail and is to reappear on the 15th of this month to assist in investigations.
