Robber Gunned Down In Obuasi

POLICE IN Obuasi shot and killed a suspected armed robber and wounded two others after a gang of four pulled a heist on a gold dealer at Asonkore, a suburb of the municipality Thursday night. The deceased, identified as Malik Iddrisu, 20, and his accomplices, Philip Asamoah Boateng, 22, and Rashid Mohammed, 19, were shot in an exchange of gunfire while committing a home invasion robbery around 9:30pm. DSP Kwabena Otuo-Acheampong, Obuasi Divisional Crime Officer, told DAILY GUIDE one other person who was part of the robbery gang managed to escape with a pump-action gun. He said the two injured robbers remained hospitalized on Friday while the body of the deceased person, Malik Iddrisu was deposited at a morgue, pending autopsy and police investigation. The robbers, according to him, opened fire upon seeing the dispatched police officers who parried the attack by returning fire that led to the death of one, and wounded two others. He disclosed that the officers found at the scene three empty cartridges, lives cartridges, a locally manufactured gun, talisman and other robbery implements. DSP Otuo-Acheampong said 19-year-old Rashid Mohammed led the gold dealer�s robbery attack which was foiled halfway through by the police officers after responding to a distress call. He continued that the suspects attacked the unnamed gold dealer at his residence at about 9:30 pm with guns, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons. The Crime Officer stated that the police managed to retrieve all the weapons except the pump-action gun that was taken away by the escapee. He asked members of the public to assist the police in tracking down the escaped robber by volunteering credible and useful information that could lead to his arrest. He also appealed to the health professionals in the area to be on the lookout for any person who might visit their facilities with a gunshot wound.
