Central Regional CLOGSAG join in nationwide strike

Members of the Central Regional branch of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association - Ghana (CLOGSAG) on Monday joined the nationwide strike by members over the implementation of Market Premium under the Single Spine Salary Structure. Many of the offices the Ghana News Agency visited such as the Controller and Accountants Generals Department, Information Services Department, Department of Social Welfare, Public Works Department, Land Commission and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture at 9.00 hours in the Cape Coast Metropolis were all closed. The regional secretariat of CLOSAG was also closed. Alhaji Nuhu Apam, Regional Secretary of CLOSAG, in a telephone interview with GNA, confirmed the strike but could not say for how long it would last. He said; We are ready to start work on Wednesday, October 16, if we hear any good news from the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission on the payment of the market premium as promised. Alhaji Apam said the Association decided to embark on the strike to enable the Fair wages and Salaries Commission to come up with pragmatic measures to address their needs. He said all the departments under CLOGSAG were on strike and that the strike action did not contravene the Labor Act since the law permitted them to do so.
