40 Years Behind Bars For Truck Pusher

An Accra Circuit Court on Monday sentenced Senyo Tettey, a truck pusher, to 40 years in jail, for conspiracy to commit crime. The court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri, convicted Tettey, on his own plea. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Patrick Morkeh told the court that the complainant is a manager of Royal York Hotel, Alogboshie near Achimota, in Accra. He said at about 0200 hours, on August 1, the convict and three others now at large armed themselves with a pistol and a cutlass and took advantage of the absence of security men, poor lighting and Closed Circuit Television camera and low fence wall and climbed into the hotel compound. The prosecution said one Eric Obobi, who was on duty saw the robbers and in an attempt to escape, ran into the reception glass door and sustained injuries in the process. �However, they caught up with him and robbed him of a cash of GH� 395.00 and later locked him up in the toilet.� DSP Morkeh said the robbers climbed upstairs, attacked the hotel manager and took the sum of GH�65.00 and a Nokia phone value GH�60.00 from him. He said a guest by name Emmanuel Zilevu was also robbed of GH�4,500.00, a watch valued at $500, Driver�s Licence, two Nokia phone and Toyota Lexus ignition key. He said the car was not taken away but the robbers also took away a �Benq� 32 inches flat screen television set valued at GH�700 which was at the reception. �Eric Obobi was rushed to the 37 Military Hospital and was admitted,� he said. He said the case was reported to the Achimota Mile 7 police where medical from was issued to the victim. The prosecution said on August 24, the Tesano police upon a tip off arrested the convict.
