The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) says it has no plans of reducing transportation fares even though petrol prices have gone down again. The I.5% decrease announced on Thursday brings it close to 6% in the last month. According to citifmonline.com, the National Chairman of the GPRTU, Alhaji Yaw Manu says the review of transport fares does not solely depend on fuel prices. �All the time we have been telling you that we didn�t increase our lorry fares because of the increase of the petrol, no. we increase it purposely with the products that we are using like lorry tyres and the spare parts; that is why we increase our fares to 20%.� He added that if �government reduces the price of petrol, we the drivers are not going to do anything about our fares.� In a related development, the Ghana National Canoe Fishermen Association has asked government to explain what went into the 18% increment of premix fuel. The fishermen have expressed worry about the continuous increase of premix fuel within the last three reviews. The Executive Secretary of the Association, Nii Abio kyere Kwanda VI said the increment is have an adverse effect on their livelihood.
