Rlg adjudged number one in Ghana

Rlg Communications, an indigenous mobile phone assembling company, has been adjudged the number one company in the Ghana Club 100 Awards. The Ghana Club 100 is an annual ranking event by the Ghana Investment Promotion Center (GIPC) to honour companies that have excelled in their various areas of operations. The 13th edition of the awards, held in Accra on Saturday, was on the theme: Good Corporate Governance and Innovative Entrepreneurship. Goldfields Ghana placed second, Enterprise Life Assurance Company, third, PBC Limited, fourth, McDan Shipping Company, fifth, Kasapreko Company, sixth and Ghana Community Network Services (GCNET) placed seventh. Mrs Mawuena Trebarh, Chief Executive Officer of GIPC, said Ghana Club 100 was made up of top 100 high performing companies in Ghana from the public and private sectors. She said it was important to note that potential investors would always be interested in seeing evidence of a company that was not just successful in terms of clients and revenue but was competitive on the global market. She said good corporate governance was, therefore, a necessary ingredient if companies wanted to be competitive on the global market. Mrs Trebrah said the dynamic and competitive nature of the global business meant investors would only be attracted to well-organised and positively ambitious companies. We need to project and maintain the right image and reputation of both the GIPC and the country as a whole, she said. Mrs Trebarh said the country needed to translate direct investment into jobs, infrastructure, and high impact interventions on critical economic indicators. Mr Paul Victor Obeng, Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission, said Government recognised the important role of the private sector in the development of the economy. He said it was the policy of Government, therefore, to work with the private sector advisory council to formulate and implement policies that would encourage and reward creativity and innovation. He said while businesses naturally were established to achieve high profit margins, effective and prudent financial management should not compel businesses to try to outsmart the state through well calculated tax-dodging tactics. He congratulated the award winning companies and urged them to mentor other growing companies to emulate their best practices to enable them to develop.
