Vice-President Amissah-Arthur Attends ECOWAS Extraordinary Meeting In Dakar

The Vice-President, Mr. Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur leaves Accra for Dakar, Senegal on Thursday 23RD October 2013 to participate in an extraordinary summit of Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The meeting scheduled for Friday 25th October will attract other Heads of State and Government of the community. A statement issued in Accra by Presidential Staffer, Communications, Office of the Vice-President, Kweku Tsen says he is being accompanied by the Minister of Trade, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu , the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Kwesi Quartey and other high ranking government functionaries. The statement said the Dakar summit is at the heart of regional economic integration as it is expected to provide a platform for deepening reflection and discussions on issues which are critical to the consolidation of the regional market. It further said the agenda of the summit had accordingly been categorised into three main areas; namely, the ECOWAS Common External Tariff, the Integration Community Level , and the Economic Partnership Agreement. Adding that as part of preparations for the summit, an extraordinary session of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers expanded to include the Ministers responsible for Finance and States of member countries had already been held in Abidjan from 30th September to 1st October 2013. �At the session, the ministers carefully examined the agenda for the summit and reached conclusions which are expected to be presented to the Heads of State and Government at the summit for their consideration and adoption.� The statement said� The Vice-President is expected to be back in Accra on Saturday October 26, 2013.
