Utility Tariffs Reduction Not An Option - Review Committee

The technical committee set up by the Presidency to review the impact of the recent tariff increment has stated that reduction in utility prizes cannot be an option for the country. The committee which presented its report to the Chief of Staff on Thursday said the countrys energy sector is in a dire state which requires a substantial amount of money to fix. They concluded that any reduction in tariffs can throw the energy sector out of gear. Presenting the report, a member of the committee, Dr Joe Abbey of ISSER, said the committee did its work independent of the Public Utilities and Regulatory Committee (PURC) and the government. As far as we are concerned we have stayed within the parameters of the PURC and we are happy that they provided information with which we could do our work and we are happy that whether we did it deliberate or not they were not constrained to be at our meeting.
