Prez. Mahama Challenged To Install Prepaid Meters At The Flagstaff House

In 2010, under the leadership of then President John Evans Atta Mills with John Dramani Mahama as Vice-President, directed the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to fix prepaid meters in all ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) to curb the abuse of electricity consumption at the MDA's while the government took the necessary action to clear its huge indebtedness to the service provider. Three years down the line, and now President Mahama, it appears the directive was not adhered to. This has compelled the president to issue another edict that the ECG replaces all postpaid meters with prepaid ones at all official residences of all ministers and presidential staffers. In furtherance of this, the ECG will begin the installation of prepaid meters in the official residences of all ministers and other government appointees next Monday. If fully implemented, the decision is expected to reduce governments indebtedness to the ECG, which runs into millions of cedis. Speaking on OKAY FMs Ghana Decides programme, former Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Michael Omari Wadie, believes attempt by the president to install prepaid meters at all ministers and government appointees residence will be a nine-day wonder. He however wants the president to walk his talk by installing prepaid meters at the seat of government. So will the President directive to install prepaid maters work at the Jubilee House (Flagstaff House) If not, why so? The lawlessness there (Flagstaff House) is higher than some of the MDAs. Will this also work at the Burma Camp? he questioned.
