2 Accidents Claim Two Lives, Injure Several Others

Two people died on the spot and six others sustained various degrees of injury in two separate accidents on the N1 (George Bush) Highway in Accra last Saturday. The first accident happened near the Dzorwulu Junction when a KIA Tata truck ran into a Range Rover salon car, killing its driver and another occupant on the spot. In the second accident, which occurred in front of the Fiesta Royale Hotel 30 minutes after the first incident, six people sustained various degrees of injury. The dead have since been deposited at the morgue of the Police Hospital in Accra while those injured are receiving treatment at the same hospital. An eyewitness, who helped to convey the dead to the morgue, narrated the incident to the Daily Graphic. According to him, the KIA Tata truck with registration number GW 3946-13, loaded with wood was travelling from Kasoa to Accra when the accident occurred. He said the driver of the Tata truck tried to jump the traffic when he reached the traffic light near the Dzorwulu Junction on the N1 Highway, and in the process the brake failed, and it ran into the Range Rover with registration number GS 7478-12. When the Daily Graphic got to the scene at about 10:30 a.m., there was no police presence, causing vehicular traffic for almost an hour. In the accident which occurred in front of the Fiesta Royale Hotel, the driver of a Rexton 4x4 vehicle with registration number GR 2203-13 ran into three vehicles also as a result of brake failure. In the process an ice water seller and five others sustained various degrees of injury. The injured were conveyed to the Police Hospital.
