Man Offers Brother-In-Law For Sale

A 32-year-old construction worker has been arrested by the Prestea/Huni Valley Police for allegedly offering his 13-year-old brother-in-law for sale. Unfortunately for the suspect, the buyer happened to be a police detective who took the suspect through the negotiation process and arrived at an agreed amount of GH100,000. The suspect, Yaw Frimpong, who did not know the identity of the buyer, is said to have counted the money and shaken hands with him thinking he had hit the jackpot only to be told, I am a police officer. You are under arrest. Speaking to the Daily Graphic, the Prestea/Huni Valley District Crime Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Emmanuel Nwinsori, said realising how serious the suspect was in trafficking the boy out of the town, an intermediary contacted the police, who feigned interest in the deal. The crime officer said arrangements were made and the suspect sent the boy for an initial assessment. He said at the next stage, the parties engaged in a serious negotiation, which reduced the price from GH100,000.00 to GH55,000 and the date, time and place were agreed upon for the exchange of money and the boy. On the agreed date, the suspect brought the boy and was paid. Just when he was about to leave with the money, the policeman identified himself and the suspect was subsequently arrested, he said. Mr Nwinsori added that following the arrest, the wife of the suspect went to the station and confirmed that the victim was her brother and that the husband said he was taking him to a friend of his to work as a domestic help. The wife said she was surprised at the turn of events and demanded to follow him to know whom her brother was going to stay with, but the husband refused to answer her. Mr Nwinsori said the suspect would be arraigned on the charge of human trafficking and would be properly remanded in police custody to help in their investigation.
