A critical analysis of the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Agency (GYEEDA) report indicted about fifteen persons who were later arrested by the Economic and Organized Crimes Office (EOCO).
Twelve of the suspects were questioned and granted bail. This came on the back of the revealing report which unearthed the rot in the programmes run by GYEEDA.
Government in March this year announced in the 2013 Budget Statement a freeze on all new modules and plans to review operations of the GYEEDA, formerly called the National Youth Employment Programme.
A five-member ministerial committee led by Mr. Ferdinand Gunny was set up to investigate the alleged rot.
The committee submitted its report to President John Mahama who in turn directed the EOCO to begin investigations into the issues.
Though the President assured Ghanaians he will find a lasting solution to the corruption at GYEEDA and also ensure that the culpable ones do not go unpunished, the Managing Editor of the Daily Searchlight, Ken Kuranchie is of a different perception.
He opined, during a panel discussion programme on Oman FM that the investigations by the EOCO will come to naught.
According to him, the government is rather covering up to muffle the truth in the GYEEDA report.
��we (Ghanaians) are not going to get a pesewa back from GYEEDA. He has covered up. There�s an issue with the financial purse of government but who audits the purse? It�s the Auditor General. The Committee, in any case, is a low powered Committee; ministerial Committee. The Minister who set up the Committee should have had questions to answer�The matter is dead�The matter as far as I�m concerned is clear that GYEEDA has been successfully covered up.�
