The Trade Union Congress (TUC) says its intended strike will not jeopardise the national security of Ghana. According to the General Secretary of the TUC, Mr Kofi Asamoah, fears that the TUC�s intended strike will create security problems in the country should be allayed since it will be done within the confines of the law. �The law prescribes what to do. I don't think TUC's strike should be blown to a level where one will think that it can pose a security threat to the country because we will give notifications to security agencies to ensure that nothing untoward happens� The TUC on Tuesday declared a nationwide strike scheduled for November 18th over what it calls an "astronomical" increase in utility tariffs. Speaking on Eye Witness News, Mr Asamoah further said the TUC is prepared to engage in discussions on their challenges with the recent hikes in tariffs. �Our doors are open to any discussion, and if for any reason we find a solution to the problem, we will be prepared to engage with anybody to ensure the problem is tackled.� Meanwhile, the Coordinator of National Security, Gbevlo Lartey, has emphasized the need for the TUC and organised labour to resolve the matter amicably. �I don�t think there is any turbulence; I think they should be able to resolve the matter amicably.� �This is not anything that anybody should be alarmed about. The appropriate state agencies who are to ensure that these issues are settled so that the economy of the state is not robbed are the ones that we rely on to do their job, �he added.
