Do Not Demand Rent Advance From National Service Personnel

Mr Stephen S.B. Seidu, Nkoranza South Municipal Director of the National Service Scheme, has appealed to landlords to be considerate in demanding rent advance from National Service Personnel because of the financial challenges facing them. He appealed to traditional authorities, assembly members, unit committees and School Management Committees to arrange decent accommodation for personnel posted to their communities to sustain their interest. Mr Seidu made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on some problems facing the personnel at Nkoranza. He expressed concern about some landlords demanding two years rent advance from the personnel although their service was for a year and said such conditions would not make the personnel comfortable in the communities. Mr Seidu explained that the allowances given to the personnel were to enable them manage their affairs during the period they served. He said 160 personnel were posted to the Nkoranza South Municipality, two-thirds of them to the Education Directorate, others to the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Food and Agriculture and the rest to other departments and institutions. Mr Seidu said other challenges facing the personnel were deplorable roads to the deprived communities and they could only come to the Municipal headquarters on Tuesdays, the Nkoranza market day. He stressed the need for the personnel to report any problems confronting them to the NSS Municipal Directorate for redress to make them feel comfortable in the discharge of their duties.
