Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, Vice-Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party in the 2012 Presidential election, will deliver the first of the Aliu Mahama Memorial Lectures at the Accra International Conference Centre on Wednesday, November 13, 2013. The lecture has been instituted by the Aliu Mahama Foundation to honour the memory of the former Vice President, who died on November 16, 2012. Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, who handed late Aliu Mahama the Vice-Presidential slot in the 2000 elections, on the ticket of the NPP, will be the Chairman for the lecture. According to an official programme released by the foundation to commemorate the first anniversary of the passing away of the man who was universally acclaimed for his campaign to rid this society of indiscipline, there will be a health walk in Accra, on Saturday, September 9, beginning at the Black Star Square in Accra, through some principal streets of Accra, and back to the Black Star Square. There will be radio and television documentaries on the life of the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama as well as Moslem and Christian prayers, before the traditional Muslim Adua at Tamale on the morning of Sunday, November 16. The commemoration would be rounded off with a challenge football match between Real Tamale United and Wa All Stars at the Tamale Sports Stadium on the afternoon of Sunday, November 16.
