A couple in Kumasi that has been blessed with a bouncing baby boy has decided to name him after Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the 2012 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The couple- Opoku Appiah, a teacher and Leticia Opoku Appiah, a nurse of the Juaben Government Hospital, christened their son Nana Akufo-Addo Opoku Appiah at well-attended naming ceremony in Kumasi on Sunday. They said they named the child after Nana Addo because of his patriotism. The couple said Nana Akufo-Addos acceptance of the Supreme Courts verdict averted civil strife in Ghana. The landmark achievement by Nana Akufo-Addo, they said, deserves to be lauded so we decided to name our son after him to honour him. The naming ceremony was attended by leading NPP gurus like Ayisi Boateng and J.B. Dankwa, among others. The ceremony was supervised by pastors from the Bantama and Gyenase Pentecost Churches on Saturday morning. Mr. Ayisi Boateng, who spoke on behalf of Nana Akufo-Addo, thanked the couple for the immense love displayed to Nana Akufo-Addo. He said in Africa people usually name their children after great men and women. According to him, children are often named after personalities with good morals. Mr. Ayisi Boateng prayed that the child would grow up to be like Nana Akufo-Addo. He donated cash for the upkeep of Nana Akufo-Addo Opoku Appiah, noting that Nana Akufo-Addo would personally visit the child after his return from abroad. The short but colourful ceremony was characterized by fervent prayers said for the child and his parents.
