The Kintampo Police have arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly beheading a 70-year-old farmer at Kewampe, a farming community on the Kintampo-Tamale highway.
Teye Krobo was said to be on his way home from his farm last Monday, when the suspect, Rashid Mumuni, beheaded him and also cut off his two arms.
Mumuni is currently in the custody of the Kintampo Police, while the headless body and two arms of the deceased have been deposited at the Kintampo Government Hospital morgue.
The Kintampo Municipal Police Commander, Superintendent Mr Desmond Boampong, who briefed the Daily Graphic, said when the deceased had not returned from his farm about 6 p.m., it aroused the suspicion of other residents of the community.
He said after the chief of the town had been informed of the development, a search party was organised to look for the deceased.
He said the party found the body of the deceased, with the head and the two arms cut off. These were found stashed about 10 metres away from where the body was.
Mr Boampong said after they had informed the police, the search party continued with their search until they saw Mumuni with bloodstains all over his body. He was immediately arrested and taken to the chief's palace.
He said Mumuni was subsequently handed over to the police and it was during interrogation that he allegedly conceded butchering Teye Krobo.
Mr Boampong said the suspect claimed that he butchered the Teye after an argument had ensued between them when he (Mumuni) requested food from him.
He, however, said the police had decided to take the suspect to a psycho-socio centre at the College of Health and Wellbeing at Kintampo for further examination, after he had started behaving abnormally.
