Hundreds Walk To Remember Aliu Mahama

Hundreds of people from all walks of life on Saturday participated in a health walk in memory of the late former Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama. The event which ended at the Accra Sports Stadium was dubbed, �Do the right thing,� It marked the beginning of activities lined up for the first Anniversary of the late vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama. Former second lady, Hajia Ramatu Mahama was among the participants. Some of them including an aspiring national Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Paul Afoko eulogized the former veep saying, �One year on as we mark this and we go through the various events that as we remember him and we pray for his soul; we first as a party will remember his lessons and unite and second as a country we will remember the same lessons to unite.� Mr. Afoko also recalled the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama�s crusade for religious tolerance which according to him deepened the nation�s peaceful co-existence. �He told the whole world not just Ghana that religious tolerance is something that we have in Ghana and we must cherish it; we must never let religion divide us after all we worship the same God.� Similarly, former Mayor of Tamale, Mohammed Amin Adam Anta said the former Veep will forever be remembered for his campaign against indiscipline in society. �Alhaji Aliu was a man of the people and he identified with people on the street; his campaign against indiscipline and the impact it had on people who were indiscipline on the street was immeasurable.� Mr. Amin said the event was symbolic because the participants took advantage of it to improve their health and urged everybody to continue exercising. �The fact that we even call it health walk meant that we needed to use this platform to improve our health and I urge everybody to be doing regular exercise.� A leading member of the NPP national women�s wing, Hajia Fati Amako described the late former Veep as a unifier who did a lot for Ghana particular the north. �He did a lot for the north and everywhere; I will always refer to him as a man of integrity.� On behalf of the Aliu family, the elderly son, Farouk Aliu Mahama showed appreciation for the high turnout saying, �It has been a good outcome because people have really come out to support the whole idea and it was very interesting and to me it was a sign of a unifying health walk which was nationalistic in nature.� He urged Ghanaians to reflect on the legacy of the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama and continue to live as one nation with a common destiny.
