Police Pluck Bad Nuts Interdict 10 For Misconduct, 13 On Service Enquiry

The Police Administration has interdicted ten police officers who were involved in recent shooting incidents and placed thirteen others under service enquiry for their inability to comply with service instructions and therefore found them guilty of various acts of misconduct. The police has by these actions, issued a stern warning to personnel of the service and hit the nail right on the head that it would not accept any untoward behavior towards the public and would deal drastically with any police officer who violates this principle. The police director general in charge of public affairs, DCOP David Ampah Benning, said police investigative report on 12 recent shooting incidents involving its personnel while in line of duty indicated that some of them acted unprofessionally while others were also found to be clean. DCOP Benning, addressing a press conference at the police headquarters in Accra on Friday, said, DSP Adjei Nimo was interdicted for visa fraud while Insp. Edward Kwesi Kwakye, Chief Supt. Joseph Obeng, Corporal Brimah, Inspector Richard Jude Adjei, Inspector Senyo Amoayo and Corporal Victor Jeremiah Gaisie were interdicted for enlistment fraud. According to the police their investigations into the alleged brutalities against some alleged land guards and cane weavers by police officers at Cantonments have it that the said officers involved acted unprofessionally and are facing service enquiry. Some police personnel were captured brutally assaulting suspects in their bid to salvage an uproar over a piece of property at the switchback road. This development is in line with the police administrations vision of ensuring that its personnel act with the highest form of professionalism. Their behaviour was considered unprofessional as the suspects were not carrying any weapon, and did not resist arrest, the report said. According to him, their investigative report also cleared personnel involved in the killing of three suspected criminals at the Mallam Atta market in Accra who attempted to rob the Paragon Night Club of any wrong doing and therefore no act of professional misconduct was established against them. The police report stated that, The police came under armed attack by the robbers, putting the life of the officers in danger. Consequently, they fired back, leading to the unfortunate death of three robbers. It further stated, Upon a thorough investigation, no act of professional misconduct was made against the police officers, who carried out the operation. No punitive action was therefore taken against the police officers concerned. The police explained that, the killing of two personnel by their colleagues at Winneba, in the Central region in September, the officer, who shot and killed them, Lance Corporal Philip Annor, was found to have acted unprofessionally since his life was not in immediate danger. DCOP Benning said disciplinary action has been taken against Lance Corporal Philip Annor, adding that the case was still being investigated by the CID. The commissioner of the service, DCOP Rose Bio- Atinga urged the public to remain calm since the police will do everything within their powers to ensure peace and tranquility and subsequently advised that whoever alleges must prove with evidence. The other reports disclosed include the Afienya shooting incident, Apedwa shooting incident, Tema Mexico Primary school shooting incident, Abeka Lapaz Fish Pond shooting incident, Abuakwa shooting incident, and the Amasaman shooting incident.
