Shouting On Radio Is Old-Fashioned- Mikki Osei Berko

Actor and presenter Mikki Osei Berko has told Koforidua-based Vision 90.9 FM's Kwame Dadzie on their entertainment programme Arts and People that shouting on radio by radio presenters is old fashioned and must stop. He said this when Kwame asked him what he made of the penchant for drive time presenters to scream on top of their voices and the fact that if one who hosts such a programme does not scream, they are not considered cut for the job. I have done that before way back when I hosted 'Agoro' on Radio Gold. But I think shouting in presentation is obsolete and should not be done. Those days when we started radio we made few mistakes but it got to a time I realized I was maturing so I needed to do something more mature. For example, a certain radio station that employed me after I had returned from the UK, wanted me to host their drive time show as I used to do fifteen years ago but I wanted to do something new. Could you even believe I once played Kirk Franklin's song on the show and they didn't like it? Not long after that, they brought Kirk Franklin to Ghana for a concert, he said. When prodded further, Mikki who has had a stint with Adom FM as their drive time presenter said that his stay with Adom FM as host of the late afternoon show 'Ofie Kwanso' was short lived because, he didn't want to do the old screaming thing some of them started that has now become a model for most drive time presenters in Ghana. He believes he was taken off the show because he would not kowtow to the outmoded model of presentation the management of Adom FM wanted him to do. Settling the age old debate among radio listeners whether or not he was the original Kokonsa, he revealed that 'Kokonsa Reporting,' a segment on Radio Gold's late afternoon drive that had the character Kokonsa speak to political, social, religious and moral issues, in a thick Ewe accent was his brainchild. He presented it while he hosted their drive before he left for Happy FM. According to him, even though some one succeeded him on that segment of 'Agoro' after his exit from the station, the photocopy can never be like the original. The actor and presenter who is also known as Master Richard, Yaw Guy, Dada Boat and Ote Kokosuor Nana, currently stars in 'Yello Caf' a series on GTV but says his 'Dada Boat' series will be coming back on screen soon. He added that he would want to be on radio again and probably sooner than later, his fans may hear him on a radio station.
