Ghana Has Ability To Feed Europe - Alhassan Andani

Managing Director of Stanbic Bank, Alhassan Andani, has warned that Ghana could wallow in continuous hardship if measures are not put in place to activate and enhance production in the agricultural sector. The country has since the beginning of the year been thrown into a state of economic turbulence resulting from election uncertainties, high taxes and tariffs. Mr Andani making some recommendations to Citi Business News on the seeming economic challenges said a lot could be done to mitigate the hardship if Ghanaians stop the talk and work at taking advantage of the Agric sector which could be a major source of foreign exchange earnings. Ghana is awash with water and land resources, and we are only six hours flight away from the UK and Europe. We should be the vegetable basket for Europe. We have the ability to produce literally every vegetable that is eaten in Europe. So why dont we convert this opportunity to real foreign exchange? There is so much value-adding to food that we should be doing, but we dont do. The way we produce maize every year is the same. Tomato is the same. We have actually not as a people, been able to go on to convert the products that we can keep longer or ship it out for cash. I think its for us to stop a bit of the talking and do more, he added.
