NDC, NPP Politics Has Hurt Ghana Mahama

Former presidential candidate of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), Dr Edward Mahama, has indicated that merger talks between all Nkrumahist parties will not materialise until they display a lot of commitment. According to him, the merger is of great importance to Ghanas politics because if the three parties do not unite and fight to win elections, Ghana will be left with just National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP), which is not good because I think NDC and NPP politics has hurt Ghana. There are reports that the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), which broke away from the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), is hoping to unite all Nkrumahist parties ahead of the 2016 general election. Earlier in 2012, the PNC and the CPP made attempts to merge to contest the 2012 general election but the decision was shelved. In an interview with Citi News, Dr Edward Mahama said previous merger attempts failed because of lack of commitment from the parties. Its not the talks; its the commitment and we have talked and talked; I am tired of talking. There is commitment on the part of some individuals but not everyone is committed. He, however, admitted that during his tenure as the presidential candidate of the PNC, he failed to unite the Nkrumahist, and also becoming the President of Ghana. So if somebody can unite the Nkrumahist, I think its the best thing. I tried for 16 years because even in 1996, when I was the only candidate besides Kufuor and Rawlings, I was insisting that Nkrumahists should be united, he added.
