Energy Minister Confers With Algerian Ambassador

Algerian Ambassador to Ghana Mr Lakhal Benkelai has called on Ghana's Energy and Petroleum Minister Hon Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah to discuss issues of mutual interest between the two oil producing countries in Africa and how to tap into the numerous opportunities the black gold presents. The meeting held at the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, saw the Algerian Ambassador commending Hon Armah-Kofi Buah for his leading role in ensuring that Ghanaians are not shortchanged in oil revenue. Mr Lakhal Benkelai also lauded government for initiating the Ghana Gas Project, saying it will inure to the benefit of industry players as well as open opportunities for local companies. Hon Armah-Kofi Buah also thanked the Algerian Ambassador for participating in events commemorating the South African President's visit to Ghana whiles acknowledging Algeria's success in the oil and gas sector. The Energy and Petroleum Minister also disclosed to the Ambassador Ghana's plan to increase power generation by 2016 to join many communities to the national grid and also help the growth of small and medium scale enterprises in the country. He said "Government is putting in place laws and measures to Increase access and opportunities for investment in the oil and gas sector", adding that the downstream sector is one area investors should consider seriously. The two gentlemen discussed issues of strategic partnership between the two countries especially in bulk oil storage to boost the capacity of Ghana's Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company in delivering its services and also collaborate in solving the energy challenges facing both countries. Mr Lakhal Benkelai further invited Hon Armah-Kofi Buah to visit Algeria to further their discussion and also tap into the technical know-how of Algerian oil experts.
