Health Minister ill At Ease With FDAs Dictatorial Stance In TOBINCO Saga

Many individuals and institutions have spoken on the impasse between the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and TOBINCO, a private Pharmaceutical company but nothing concrete has been heard from the Minister of Health, which has an oversight responsibility over the FDA. But Tony Goodman, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ministry of Health stated that Hon. Sherry Aryettey is ill at ease with the bullish posture of the regulatory authority. ...I have in my hand a letter she (the Minister) has written to some quarters, indicating that there is no nobody in this country who can close down any facility apart from the Minister, who would also have to seek an Executive Instrument from the President. ...if you are in a position of authority and you have some of these things confronting you, you do not have to be reacting in the media but you have to do background work and that is exactly what he is doing, an obviously frustrated PRO explained. Mr. Goodman read the letter upon the request of Me Man Nti on NEAT FM host, Adakabra Frimpong Manso, which was essentially to suggest that, the FDA had over stepped its bounds by attempting to close down warehouses belonging to TOBINCO Pharmaceuticals. This comes on the back of a caution by Prof. Steven Addai, the former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Professional Studies (GIMPA). In the view of Prof. Addai, the action of the FDA Boss in the TOBINCO affair smacks of gross abuse of office and it inconceivable that accompany and its officials, accused of importing fake drugs would be still be walking free.
