The Ministry of Trade and Industry has with immediate effect suspended the work of the task force which checks the influx of pirated textiles in the Ghanaian market. The Deputy Minister, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye revealed, the directive was given to the textile traders at a meeting at the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Resurrection congregation church hall. He explained that �it is not the intention of anybody to subject you to any form of harassment when you are doing your legitimate business. I am not here to tell you that you can go ahead and sell pirated cloth or textiles.� Mr. Vanderpuye clarified that the intention of his Ministry �is to protect the textile industry in Ghana and to protect your business which is not negotiable.� According to him, the suspension of the activities of task force is to enable the Ministry engage in an in-depth discussion with the traders to find a lasting solution to the problem. He warned that the Ministry �will not want anyone to take this as an opportunity to continue to bring to the market, pirated textiles.� Meanwhile, the traders have expressed their satisfaction with the directives the Deputy Minister gave at the meeting.
