190 Schools Under Trees To Be Eliminated This Year Education Minister

Eliminating schools under trees is one of the electoral promises of the current administration; the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The schools under trees project is aimed at facing out pupils having classes under trees and dilapidated structures. The issue of how many of them had been eliminated became a contentious issue as different figures are always churned out by government communicators. But speaking to Kwami Sefa Kayi in an exclusive one-on-one live interview on PeaceFMs flagship programme, Kokrokoo, Minister of Education, Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman disclosed that 985 out of the 2269 schools under trees have been eliminated. According to her, it cannot be said that government has all but completely eliminated schools under trees since more reports of ramshackle and decrepit buildings mushroom on a daily basis. She added that the Ministry of Education has therefore decided to complete the ones that are almost at the completion stage and then attention will be given to the new ones. You cant put a final figure on the number of schools under trees; some can mushroom anytime. We can say that out of 2269 schools under trees, we have eliminated 985 as at this yearWe have schools at the various stages of completion all under the schools under trees project. This year, we have looked at the various projects and are focusing on those almost under completion; hence we have isolated 190 which will be fully completed and then we will focus on the rest, Prof Jane Opoku-Agyeman stated.
