Zoom Alliance Company at the weekend embarked on a clean-up campaign christened: Special Drain Distilling Exercise, in parts of Accra. Mr Kenneth Asare, Technical and Operations Manager of Zoom Alliance in an interview with the Ghana News Agency during the exercise at Castle road his outfit in collaboration with Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development on September 7, launched the first phase of the campaign dubbed: One Month Intensive Clean-up Exercise in Accra. He said the exercise which covered Accra Metropolitan Assembly and some Municipal and District Assemblies of Greater Accra Region, focused on some market used as refuse collection and communities with heaps of refuse. He said the second phase which would last for three weeks would focus on eight identified drains areas. Mr Asare said the exercise includes intensive clean-up exercises and a mop up, monitoring and enforcement of good sanitation practices at operational sites. He said the exercise would reclaim evacuated lands which would be filled with laterite and levelled. There would also be security presence to deter people from indiscriminate dumping of refuse after the exercise. Mr Asare said environmental cleanliness is a shared responsibility and therefore all must be involved in the exercise and intensify the education on the dangers of poor sanitation to facilitate attitudinal change. The ceremony witnessed practical field work by the officers of the Zoom Alliance in cleaning and distilling areas like Castle road in Osu, the Landing market at Jamestown and Mallam Market.
