Anger Brews In Military...Calls On Govt

The failure of the government of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Controller and Accountant General to pay the annual bonuses of military personnel and their pensioned colleagues is leading to great anger and distress, the Daily Searchlight can reveal. According to the military personnel who stormed the Daily Searchlight offices yesterday, there has been the annual tradition of government paying them bonuses. Our pensioned colleagues also receive bonuses towards the end of the year to make life a bit more comfortable, they said. Since 2009, however, the government has been playing hide and seek with them when it comes to the payment of the bonuses. Our 2009 bonus was only paid in 2010, and only after we had protested. Again the bonus for 2010 was only paid in January 2012, with all the rest still outstanding. This means that in five years the military and their pensioners have received their bonuses only twice! How can that be? they wondered. They expressed great grief over this situation and called upon government to remedy this situation immediately!
