Death Most Cruel

ROSEMOND NYAMPONGS death attracted an expected countrywide empathy. All who read the sad story about her could not help but ask why a lady of her stature, minding her own business, would have life snuffed out of her so crudely. As for those who murdered the lady, their state of mind at the time they descended upon the deceased would make interesting knowledge and add to what criminologists already know about crime. It would also be interesting to find out the correlation between drugs and crime, against the backdrop of the rising incidence of drug use in the country. Accra, the nations capital and other parts of the country are beginning to, more than ever, exhibit the features of crime-prone cities worldwide and therefore demand specialized attention from security agents involved in fighting and investigating crime. Hired killing, previously a rare occurrence, appears to be gaining a foothold somewhat, a scary reality which all must join hands to eliminate from our society. Criminals are becoming more sophisticated by the day, as the role of money and technology becomes more important. The Greater Accra Regional Police Command is currently investigating a suspect over the murder of the Dome Chairman of the NPP, which incident occurred last year or so. A fortnight ago, a land guard related murder took place outside Accra, adding to the disturbing statistics of murders in the country. It is instructive to mention that the Police have been doing their best under the circumstances to arrest suspects in such murders. The Police are already interrogating a suspect whose cooperation would add to our knowledge about how hired assassins operate and other details, which should be valuable for the training of detectives in the country. Understanding that there are human beings who are ready to kill for money and personal belongings, should prime us to be more cautious about our movements and make us appreciate the importance of joining hands with law enforcement agents to fight crime. We should be mindful about the quality and integrity of our friends because of the dangers bad companies can pose. For the umpteenth time, we would like to remind all of us to support each other in times of need. Our society is becoming so individualistic that when our neighbours are in distress, they are unable to count on the support of those who share common walls with them. We should cultivate the habit of taking interest in what takes place around us and to report to the security agents unusual developments, as these could save lives and even thwart attempts by criminals to commit crimes. We entreat all who have knowledge about suspicious details regarding the deceased, which can lead to the arrest of those who have a hand in the murder directly or indirectly to provide same to the police. Rosemonds murder was a painful one and we share the sorrow emanating from it with the bereaved family and pray that her soul rests in peace.
