Sky Consult clears air over Ghana Post legal tussle

Mr Abubakar Miller, Chief Executive Officer of Sky Consult Limited, on Monday said his company took Ghana Post to court over its failure to pay Sky's consult share of accumulated commission and not on the basis of contract abrogation. Mr Miller made this known when he appeared before the Judgement Debt Commission on Monday in Accra. He explained that Sky Consult entered into an agreement with Ghana Post in 2005 to deliver domestic money transfer system for which Ghana Post failed to pay Sky consult's accumulated commission of GhC978,000. He said Sky Consult, therefore, took Ghana Post to court over the issue and demanded the payment of its commission with an interest. He said the court granted its request and asked Ghana Post to pay GHC1,693,872.11 and has since paid GHC1,563,871.56 leaving a balance of GHC 130,000. Mr Miller said, however, that his outfit is still considering taken Ghana Post to court over the abrogation of its contract. Officials of Ghana Post who appeared before the Commission requested for an extension of the date to enable them get all the necessary documents with regard to the issue. Justice Yaw Appau, Sole Commissioner for Judgement Debt, accepted the request by the Ghana Post and extended the date to January 8, 2014. Kernel David Fiawoo, a representative of the Ministry of Defence, also appeared before the Commission in connection with 247.67 acres of land acquired by the state for the Ministry of Defence at Kpetoe in the Volta Region. He confirmed to the Commission that the land was duly acquired for the Ministry of Defence and part of which was used to train bodyguards. Mr Bentsi Enchill, an officer of the Valuation Division of the Land Commission, confirmed to the Judgement Debt Commission that compensation to the land has been paid.
