The truth is not convenient. It is nevertheless expected that everyone � especially leaders, should be brave enough to stand up, swallow their pride, damn the consequence for the truth. Every nation that made progress arrived at the point where they could no more ignore the truth. Dr. Konadu Apraku in admonishing his colleagues in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) about the unsuitability of Nana Akufo-Addo to lead the party again after losing two successive elections, both in 2008 and 2012, has become a subject of public discourse. He did the party a favour by opening up to the problem that has held the party sway since 2007, when Nana Addo became its leader. He told the truth. It�s hurt but that is the unfortunate and unpalatable truth to the hypocrites in the party, who have descended on him, making unreasonable and senseless noises. While examining his moral rectitude for addressing such an accusatory comment about Nana Akufo-Add, some people in the party, especially supporters of Nana Addo, are of the opinion that he is as much culpable as the man he is accusing. Their reason is that he was the campaign manager for the 2008 election. The latest twist to the whole debate and hullabaloo is the unfortunate comments by the General Secretary of the NPP, the Sir of Junks, Kwawdo Owusu Afriyie, who does not think before opening his mouth; he said that Dr. Apraku is happily dining with the Mahama-led government for political favor. Such loose and ridiculous talk from an imbecile and a bastardized General Secretary, who is on a highway to destruction, is certainly the reasons why the NPP lost the 2012 elections, and should they maintain him against more capable and credible candidates, like Kwabena Agyepong, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah etc, then the party is set for another defeat in 2016. Did I hear Sir John, say the same about Dr. Charles Wereko Brobbey, when he criticized their Star witness, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the Supreme Court case brought against President John Dramani Mahama and the Electoral Commission, about the fact that the 2012 election was rigged in favour of the former. What he said was a food for thought, but trust people like Sir John who have no modicum of commonsense to attack him. Dr. Wereko Brobbey, was accused by Sir John of wanting favour from the Mahama government that was why he advised them against the reliefs they were seeking at the Supreme Court. He said you don�t close the staple when the horse has bolted. Dr. Arthur Kobena Kennedy suffered the same faith when he wrote his famous book, �Chasing The Elephant Into The Bush, Politics of Complacency�. What he wrote in that book, had the NPP appreciated it and implemented it, perhaps the story will have been different today. But the same complacency that he wrote about is what is rearing its ugly head in the case of Dr. Konadu Apraku again. By benefit of hindsight, events in the past and of recent buttress Dr. Konadu Apraku�s standpoint, that Nana Akufo-Addo, despite what his followers want us to believe is not marketable. He is a bad product leading a good company, with a reputation of good products, like ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanteng, who is the new face of the party. Those who argue that what Dr. Apraku was for cheap publicity and exploiting sympathy from the delegates of the NPP may be deliberately shying away from the truth � they are afraid to admit that there is substance contained in what he said. If you say Nana Addo is marketable, then why lose two successive elections. In 2012 he lost to President John Dramani Mahama, who was only staking his first attempt. I am more than convinced now that Sir John does not understand English, had he read what Dr. Apraku said, he would have called the man to thank him. What everyone who truly love the NPP should not lose sight of are some of the weighty revelations in what Dr. Apraku said during the inauguration of TESCONA, an NPP group, made up of past graduates of the tertiary schools in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital. No matter how anyone hates and wants to insult Dr. Apraku, he has unearthed topical issues we cannot just sweep under the carpet. The NPP is doomed to lose, should they present Nana Addo again. One of them is the overriding issue of a marketable leader, he said, �the right leader would help transform and improve the fortunes of the NPP and save it from losing power again.� Many of us can attest that Nana Addo and some party Executives have been the bane of the NPP. A situation where the likes of Sir John, Jake Obestebi Lamptey, who are notorious for all manner of political gimmick and insidious manipulation, are still heavily patronized to the point of holding sensitive positions like the General Secretary and Party Chairman is a clear manifestation of the problems of the NPP, and to hoot, they are even expressing the desire to hold onto those positions. Indeed, the NPP is not the party that attracted the brightest of young men and women in the past, and certainly not the party I once voted for. My first vote when I turned 18 was for the NPP, it is said that the first kiss is the deepest; I hope I will not have to regret that for the rest of my life. The NPP need a new sense of direction, a breadth of new leadership. For the first time I agree with the rolling stone, Kennedy Agyepong, Member of Parliament (MP), for Assin Central that the NPP need new leaders, what he failed to mention is that includes Nana Addo. The problem of the NPP is not who leads it, but who can attract floating and undecided voters. I am sorry to say this, put a Goat to lead the party and their supporters will vote for it anyway. It is an inconvenient truth, but what Dr. Konadu Apraku has only done was reiterate what everyone already knows, the party is sinking and needs to be purged of all the misfits, who are currently running the party. If the rank and file of the party, who formed the silent majority won�t listen to the voice of one of the leading figures in the party, 2016 I daresay might be too late.
